Program Summaries

So, what's Sports 4 Jarvis been up to?

There are several initiaves covering golf, equipment, facilities and career development. Read summaries of each below and follow links to pages with more details.

GOLF: Our third annual golf lesson/clinic  at Don Valley Golf Course  - scheduled for the spring of 2019.- was postponed due to  exigencies at the school. We had offered and promoted a clinic in the spring of 2018 too, but the PhysEd folks could not get enough students who were keen. We also arranged for Golf Ontario to do a clinic at the school in May 2017. Thje first event was a successful full day with several classes from both PhysEd programs.  We are also reached out (with the help of Golf Ontario) to the elementary schools  that feed Jarvis. We  offered to sponsor them for the Golf in School Program if they chose to get - and stay - involved. A day of lessons was held  at Nelson Mandela Park school in 2018 .There has been no other pick up of our offers. Sad but true. What to do about our golf ideas?? We will deal with that issue along with others in our anniual planning excercises.

EQUIPMENT SUPPLY FOR THE GENERAL PHYSED PROGRAM:We have an open offer with the school to finance the procurement of sports equipment. A former acquisition   delivered, inter alia,  some volleyball, dodge ball, basketball and baseball equipment, baseball gloves and volleyball/basketball uniforms. All needs were identified by the school (not by us!). We have planned  this to be an ongoing effort to support the PhysEd programs which initiative is greatly appreciated.

CAREERS; There are many diverse opportunities for careers in the sportng industry, Sure, playing for a living is a nice thought, but there's so much more. Team mangement, athlete training,  coaching, turf maintenace, equipment design, manufacture and supply come to mind. We are dedicated to informing students of post- secondary learning opportunities directly and through the Guidance Department. We have offered to arrange speakers/mentors at career days too.  We have had little or no response from the Guidance people which is a disappointment. We will continue to offer our insight and help on a periodic basis.

OUTDOOR FIELD FACILITIES:  We noted a while back that new fields were built at North Toronto (financed by condo development) and Northern (financed by alumni). New domed fields exist at   Central Tech, Monarch and Lakeshore (financed by private enterprise). There are other newer fields at schools which were finanaced by TDSB. These field facilities serve students and the broader sporting communities. WE ASKED WHY NOT JARVIS??

AND TDSB HAS ACTED TO (RE) BUILD THE JCI FIELD. WE CAN'T TAKE ALL THE CREDIT BUT LET'S TAKE SOME! RATTLING AROUND THE HALLS OF POWER CAN  ALTER PRIORITIES. GOOD HONEST LOBBYING EH WHAT.

There are several potential partners for such a venture. We will  continue a little marketing & lobbying to help achieve a field redevelopment.
